Counterstrike has long been touted as the number one online action game in the world. And for good reason: fast, addictive gameplay with considerable room for team tactics, and a graphics engine that could make do with remarkably little harware oomph. Interestingly enough, CS began as little more than a user-built mod for the award-winning game Half Life. That was waaay back in 1998.

In March 2004, Valve finally released Counterstrike: Condition Zero (also available at GameFrog). It was the old classic distributed as a stand-alone game with a few graphical improvements. Although still a fine game, CS:CZ only proved that the game was starting to show its age.

Fast forward to 2005, and with the much anticipated release of Half Life 2 and its phenomenal Source engine comes Counterstrike: Source.

Same great game in a shiny new graphics engine

Counterstrike: Source makes full use of Valve's new Source graphics engine. To you and me that means:

• Astounding grapics quality even at moderate settings.
• Full "rag doll" physics for dead bodies.
• Fully immersive and interactive environment.
• Excellent volumetric smoke from grenades.
• Real-time rendered shadows!

Add to that the same excellent sounds from the previous versions of CS and you've got a killer game.
