Online   Dawn of the Ancients   Magic: The Gathering OnlineMagic Online takes the immensely popular Magic: The Gathering collectible trading card game into cyberspace, letting you play online with other Magic players around the world. MTGO is really a virtual version of the game, using the exact same rules and the exact same cards that Wizards of the Coast markets for its trading card game. Like what you would do in the real-world version of the game, you sign up for an account at the Magic Online website, and this gets you a starter deck. From there you proceed to purchase boosters to bolster your deck, or trading with the system and/or other players for cards that you want or need. Have your credit card handyAlthough the game isn't technically pay-to-play, you do use real money (via online credit card transactions) to acquire the cards. The system accepts the standard repertoir of international credit cards--visa, mastercard and american express. Happily, cards that you acquire online can be redeemed when you terminate your account. That is, you terminate your account, and pay a handling fee for Wizards of the Coast to ship you the cards that you actually had in the game. In that sense, there's a real value that you can redeem for the hard earned bucks you end up spending in the game. Tournaments on demandThe real strength of the system is that you can have tournaments with other players around the world on demand. MTGO allows for the standard range of tourney types. Winning earns you points that you can use to pay for cards from other players, or to pay for booster packs from the system. Tournament play is top-notch since the system enforces ALL the rules as they were intended. Playing a magic tourney online is like playing with a DCI level 5 judge seated at your table. It WILL NOT allow players to cheat. The lowdown: if you're nuts about Magic: The Gathering, then you're going to love playing it online. You get to face-off against players from around the world and join tournaments whenever you want to.
